Jaca Diocese Museum

Mediaeval art at its purest. The Jaca Diocese Museum has an exceptional collection of Pyrenean Romanesque with important mural paintings and an exhibition of capitals.

Located next to the cathedral, the Jaca Diocese Museum invites visitors to go on a magical journey where they can interact with the environment and discover the Romanesque art of the Pyrenees.

One of the highlights of the Museum is the Bagüés Room, where visitors can see what experts call the "Sistine Chapel of the Romanesque".  A veritable delight for art lovers and a unique opportunity for entering into the artistic mysteries of the Middle Ages.

It opened in 1979 and was refurbished in 2010, with an extension that gives it 2,000 square metres.  It has two storeys: one devoted entirely to the Romanesque and the other to Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles.  The cloister serves as an ambulatory to access the different rooms: the turret room, the Bagüés room, the refectory, the cloister room and the different chapels, on the first floor; and the secretum and the library on the second.
